The Perfect Gray: A Trial of Sorts

I found the perfect gray!!! You are welcome.
Remember when I posted about my paint colors for the house here?
Well, I had to make some tweaks.

The main color I chose for the living room, ethereal mood, looked gray. But once it was up on the walls it looked green. Like a light celery green.

What.the.heck? If you have had to repaint your walls over and over again, you know what I am talking about. I was so upset. That meant more time, energy and money to repaint the walls, so I decided to live with them.

That lasted about 3 days.

I went back to Sherwin-Williams, got some of their color-to-go paint samples and my walls looked like this for about a week:

I didn’t want too light of a gray. I also didn’t want a ridiculously dark one. I wanted a true gray. Something that didn’t look red or blue or some other color when you looked at it differently in the light.

I decided to go with Dovetail

After I primed the walls (because I didn’t want the different hues of the samples coming through) and re-painted the walls again….I was happy! I feel like I found the perfect color that was in my mind the whole time.

From this experience I learned that if you try something in your home but it just doesn’t feel right, try, try again. If I would have stuck with the original color I chose, every time I walked into the living room I would have felt unhappy and that would have bugged me until the end of time.

So, take a risk. It might pay off, it might not. But when it does, it is totally worth it.

“In progress” photos coming soon!

Chrissy

Been there – done that. Some things in life you do have to live with but change the ones you can!

I lurve the color you went with! It suits you so perfectly! Hoping I can use your advice when we begin the painting process. We’ll probably go with a grey, but a little lighter than your Dovetail.

    • Thank you! It is definitely a bit dark…I usually don’t like such dark colors but since the window is HUGE and we get a ton of light, thought I would go for it. Definitely I will help! Although I am not a color expert…as you can tell ; )

  3. Well done Christina!!

  4. Between this and 50 Shades of Grey I’m so confused. But seriously, nice job on the paint. Looks very lovely in your apartment.
